What: On-farm field day to compare two different high tunnel methods of growing tomatoes and cucumbers

Where: Forest Glenn Farm, 48677 Rice Lake Road , Frazee , Minn.
Background: Dallas and Mary Flynn received a Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) Sustainable Agriculture Grant to use solar energy to heat the soil in a high tunnel growing environment and compare it to traditional high tunnel production that uses no heat. A high tunnel is a plastic-covered structure that provides better protection and temperature control than field conditions.
The Flynns are the owners-operators of Forest Glenn Farm where they grow tomatoes, cucumbers and shiitake mushrooms.
Field Day Schedule:
10:30 -11:00 a.m.: coffee and rolls
11:00 -12:30 p.m.: tour and discussion of high tunnels
12:30 -1:15 p.m.: lunch
1:15 – 2:00 p.m.: shiitake mushrooms, other topics
Directions: Forest Glenn Farm is located off Highway 10 at the end of Rice Lake Road , between the towns of Frazee and Perham. Signs will be posted.
